Episode 0: Introduction

What do we mean when we say quantum? Generally, quantum research can fall into the following categories. Doodle with six categories and their corresponding icons. Metrology with doodle of a wave coming out of a clock. Networking with a doodle of a banana phone, cell phone, and wifi symbol. Quantum sensing with image of compass. Quantum simulation with doodle of pacman eating molecules. Quantum comptuing with image of abacus. Quantum materials with sketch of a yellow lego.
Researchers may think of one of these topics. Sketch of person with thought bubble with pacman eating molecules inside it. Bellow is the handwritten text "or they might study a physics system that can be used to make discoveries or innovations in a few of these areas."

Handwritten text that says "these are some common physical systems in quantum science." Bellow are labeled doodles. Diamond with label "defects in solids." Flashlight with label "photonic systems." Lattice with label "quantum materials." Angry looking round ion character inside a cage labled "trapped ions." Atom wearing sunglasses and two atoms holding hands with label "cold atoms or molecules." Image of electron inside a racecar on top of a circuit labled "superconducting qubits." After these icons, there is more handwritten text saying "of course, you can combine these systems and invent new or novel ways of studying different topics in quantum science and engineering quantum systems.
Text reading "researchers in quantum science and engineering come from many different backgrounds. Many of them are phsyicsists, others are electrical engineers, some are computer scientists, chemists, or materials scientists." Bellow are cartoons people labeled physics, electrical engineers, computer scientists, chemists, and materials scientists.
